LOC Chairman Speech

Dear distinguished members and guests of the Paediatric Association of Nigeria,

On behalf of the Paediatric Association of Nigeria (PAN) I warmly greet you as we prepare for the 48th edition of our conference (PANConf 2017) being hosted by the Department of Paediatrics of Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Zaria. The conference will take place at Hotel 17 in Kaduna, the capital city of Kaduna State, and is tagged PANConf 2017 Zaria/Kaduna.

The theme of the conference, Consolidating child health in Nigeria through the Sustainable Development Goals: gains and gaps of the MDGs, is apt and appropriate considering the events of the past few decades and our collective vision on child health for the nearest future. We believe passionately that the Nigerian child deserves the best of health care services, especially preventive care, if our nation is to have much hope of making meaningful progress.

The sub-themes are :

  1. Emergence of the internally displaced Nigerian child – challenges and way forward.
  2. Sustaining child health – the role of parents, paediatricians and other professionals
  3. Technological advances of the 21st century: effects on healthcare and development of the Nigerian child.
